..Sunday Fun-day: My Raw Food Experience..

Gypsy Gems,

Today was a beautiful day - so beautiful that I would love to share it with you.

It started off just right with an early afternoon Raw Food Potluck. I was invited to this community event  by a lovely gem and I am so happy I accepted.

I have never tried a completely raw food recipe (on purpose), and I wanted to make sure I prepared it correctly to meet "raw food standards". I wasn't sure where to start or what I would make so I turned to my good friend, Google, to educate me on what constituted as raw food, and why raw food diets were sweeping the nation.

This is (briefly) what I learned:
A raw food diet consists of unprocessed vegan foods that have not been heated above 115 degrees Fahrenheit. It is believed that foods that are cooked above this temperature lose their enzymes and a significant amount of their nutritional value, which can be harmful to the body. Uncooked foods provide living enzymes and proper nutrition which can result in weight loss, more energy, clearer skin, improved digestion and overall health.

After I "educated" myself on raw foods I literally Googled: Easy Raw Food Recipes. I found an amazing recipe for Lettuce Burritos. They were easy, fun to make and were an absolute hit at the potluck.

I took some pictures of the beautiful and delicious foods that were offered today - there was so much variety: various salads and fruit, coconut chocolate covered banana pops, dill stuffed mushrooms, date squares, tahini hemp seed balls, and orange smoothies.

Today has inspired me to introduce more Raw Foods into my Diet - maybe I will even go on a Raw Food Cleanse. Care to join?

Until Next Time,

Much Love.

..Maintenance of Your Gypsy Jewels..

Gypsy Gems,

I just wanted to give you ladies some tips on how to love and care for your beautiful gypsy jewels.
  • Don't spray perfume when wearing your earrings or any other jewellery for that matter. The alcohol in the perfume with tarnish the metal clasping.
  • If you spill liquid or get the feathers dirty, don't fret. Run the earring under cold drizzling water and set to dry. (Do not play/move the feathers when wet.)
  • It is best to hang your jewels when you are not wearing them to maintain their natural shape.
  • Try not to get any hair product or hairspray on your earrings. Do your hair and make-up and then put on your earring.
  • Having any trouble with earrings? (Broken clasp, etc?) Email me at gypsykarmafashion@gmail.com and let's talk about how we can get it fixed for you :)

Until Next Time,

Much Love.

..Apologies & RAK #2..

Gypsy Gems,

My sincere apologies for leaving you all hanging for so long. There hasn't been much activity on the GPK because I have been a busy Gypsy Queen. I am making some fantastic life changes - that I am so excited to share with you. They are kind of in the works, so I will give you all a full update when they are set in stone. But I will tell you this - I am moving, making a career change and vow to devote more of my time to the GKP.

Truro, Ottawa, Whistler and Panama - your gypsy jewels are in the works. I have not forgot about my precious gypsy gems. Just bare with me during this hectic time.

Okay - on to some kindness ideas. I am going to offer you the second..

Random Act of Kindness Inspiration (#2) - Help Someone for Free

It is easy to put time and effort into tasks if we're doing them ourselves or getting paid for them. But what about offering your services for free? Why not do a job like mowing the lawn, helping someone move or babysit and surprise him or her by not charging a fee.

Do you have a friend, acquittance or family member that is struggling financially? Offer them your services for free - there are a million ways you can help. Do you have a gift for fixing cars, are you an artist, are you really handy when it comes to organizing? Find something you are good at and make a commitment to use your talent to help someone.

Does this speak to you? If so, what are you waiting for?

Get Inspired and Spread the Love.

Until Next Time,

Much Love.

..Youlookfiiine..

Gypsy Gems,

A few months ago I had an lovely gifting experience with Danna, a fashion blogger. Read about it here. Well not only did she wear the gem on New Year's Eve - starting the year off right (Can't I toot my own horn a bit?), but she also dedicated a post to me. How rad is that?

Extra, extra... read all about it at youlookfiiine.com

Thanks Danna - you're a gem. xo

Until Next Time,

Much Love.

..Random Acts (RAK #1)..

Gypsy Gems,

For those of you just tuning in, this blog revolves around the fact that I practice good karma and spread some of my gypsy love by gifting my handmade, one-of-a-kind earrings (and charms) to those I meet, have met and/or love. My gifting is sporadic and random. I gift to waiters at restaurants, to peers at music shows, approach strangers in airports, and reach out to old childhood friends to provide them with a little something in hopes that it will create a "moment" for them.

I believe that random acts of kindness should not be dying deed. I am trying to do my part to sustain the endangered species of selfless acts. As it turns out there is an amazing organization that is doing just the same. The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation inspires people to practice kindness and pass it on to others. Their website has this incredible resource that allows the sharing of Kindness Ideas to ignite an urge to participate in the movement.

I have decided to spread their word in hopes of inspiring YOU to participate. I will post ideas of random acts of kindness (RAK) and if one speaks to you - I challenge you to complete the task. I would LOVE to hear about your triumph. Email me: gypsykarmafashion@gmail.com.

RAK Inspiration # 1 - Give Care packs to the Homeless

There are so many everyday necessities and toiletries that we take for granted - toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, snacks, gloves, socks, a warm blanket, etc.

Imagine how you would feel if you didn't have access to these small things. Well many people in our community can't afford these simple things. By donating even the smallest items to those who don't have them, you'll be providing someone with a greater sense of self worth.

Does this speak to you? If so, what are you waiting for?

Get Inspired and Spread the Love.

Much Love.

Until Next Time,

<3 Your GypsyQueen

..Gifting encounter in Michigan II..

Gypsy Gems,

I am finally in Toronto :)

I have been walking around all morning enjoying the cold but fresh air. The city is so festive and I can really feel the Christmas spirit. It is only 2:30 but I have seen 1) carollers, 2) runners in Christmas attire (Santa hats, red bathing suits and speedos) , 3) Christmas buskers (dressed as elves, etc) and 4) men dressed as toy soldiers holding the door for me at Holts.

Toronto, I am in Love with you.

Okay, okay, lets back track for a second and let me finish telling you about my gifting encounters in Michigan.

I gifted another earring to a co-worker I met last week who resides in Vancouver. She was a lovely lady who I really connected with during the two weeks I was in Michigan. I gifted her a multi-colored jewel with a elongated gold leaf charm. The feathers were bright green, blue, orange, and black and white polka dots. The jewel was named "Oh so Pretty" - kind of an inside joke we had.

I know what you are probably thinking, "you went to Michigan and didn't gift any jewels to Americans"... The nature of the business trip made it very difficult to do so. But that's okay. I have a few jewels that have made their way to the states: New York, San Fran - still waiting on pictures, and North Carolina.

Anyway, I am off to Kensington Market - one of my favourite places on earth with one of my favourite ladies on earth.

Until Next Time,

Much Love
